||WA CoastSavers is an alliance of partners and volunteers dedicated to keeping Washington State’s beaches clean of marine debris through coordinated beach cleanups and education. WA CoastSavers' goals support regularly planned beach cleanups, and education opportunities through the year and acknowledge that outreach is a critical tool for
mitigating impacts of marine debris and creating future environmental stewards.
||Grassroot beach cleanups have occurred on Washington’s coast since the early '70s. Government land and habitat management agencies quickly recognized the informal cleanup events were supportive of their respective missions to encourage public participation in stewardship of our coastal marine environments and became active partners. The founding organizers and the cooperating agencies streamlined coordination to expand cleanup efforts and improve public outreach and hired part time staff. A strategic plan identified and clarified roles and a unified alliance was formed, the Washington Clean Coast Alliance, now simply known as WA CoastSavers. WA CoastSavers is now responsible for organizing over almost 2000 volunteers and over a dozen agencies to clean up over 150 miles of coastal beach habitat.
